If you downloaded a file from SAM that contains accent marks, or other special characters and they display like this in SAM: Frédéric but display like this in the export file Fr√©d√©ric. This is due to the encoding with the program you used to open the file. SAM uses UTF-8 encoding, so files should be opened using this encoding. Using Microsoft Excel, there is a way to import the file using UTF-8 encoding so that the accents are preserved and then the Excel file can be saved.
1. Download the file from SAM.
2. Open a blank Excel workbook.
3. Click File>Import. Choose CSV file.
4. Select the file you downloaded from SAM
5. Choose delimited, and for file origin choose Unicode (UTF-8) and click NEXT
6. Select comma as the delimiter, click NEXT
7. Click finish and then click OK to import the data into the existing sheet.
8. Save the file.
